How To Draw A Compound Bow? Simple & Quick

Compound bows are becoming increasingly popular for both hunting and target shooting. If you’re thinking about getting into archery, or if you’re just curious about how they work, it can be helpful to know how to draw a compound bow.

In this blog post, we will discuss how to draw a compound bow? We will go over the steps involved in drawing a compound bow, as well as some tips and tricks to make the process easier. But before we dive into the steps, let us first explain what a compound bow is?

What Is The Compound Bow?

A compound bow is a type of bow that uses pulleys and cables to help the archer draw the string. This makes it easier to hold at full draw, and also allows for a much higher degree of accuracy than traditional bows.

Let’s Begin With The Guide to Draw a Compound Bow:

There are a few things you need to know before you start drawing a compound bow.  First, you need to make sure that the bow is properly strung. If it’s not, the bow could potentially break when you draw it.

Once the bow is strung, you can begin drawing it. To do this, first, hold the bow in your non-dominant hand. Then, reach up with your dominant hand and grab the string. Pull the string back until it’s at your cheek, and then anchor it into place with your fingers.

Now, begin drawing the bow by pushing forward with your dominant hand while pulling back with your non-dominant hand. As you do this, be sure to keep the string aligned with your arrow. When you reach full draw, you can release the arrow by simply letting go of the string.

A Quick Run-Down To Steps To Draw A Compound Bow:

1. Make sure the bow is properly strung before beginning.

2. Hold the bow in your non-dominant hand, and reach up with your dominant hand to grab the string.

3. Pull the string back until it’s at your cheek, and then anchor it into place with your fingers.

4. Begin drawing the bow by pushing forward with your dominant hand while pulling back with your non-dominant hand.

5. As you draw the bow, be sure to keep the string aligned with your arrow.

6. When you reach full draw, release the arrow by simply letting go of the string.

With a little practice, you’ll be drawing and releasing arrows like a pro in no time.

Important Things You Need To Keep In Mind During The Draw:

The Compound grip is important:

The most important thing to keep in mind when drawing a compound bow is the grip. It is very important to maintain a proper grip on the bow at all times, as an incorrect grip can lead to the bow slipping and potentially causing injury. There are two main types of grips that can be used when drawing a compound bow: the pinch grip and the palm grip.

  • The pinch grip is the most common grip used by compound bow shooters. To execute this grip, simply place your index finger and thumb on either side of the arrow, and then wrap your other fingers around the handle of the bow.
  • The palm grip is less common but can be used if desired. To execute this grip, place your hand palm-down on the bow, and then wrap your fingers around the handle.

 Keep Your Head Up Straight:

One of the most important things to remember when drawing a bow is to keep your head up straight. If you start to lower your head, it will throw off your aim and make it more difficult to hit your target.

Stay Relaxed:

Another important thing to remember is to stay relaxed while you’re drawing the bow. If you’re tense, it will make it harder to aim properly. Try to take a few deep breaths and focus on your target before you start drawing.

Keep Your Wrist Flat:

When you draw the bow, it’s important to keep your wrist flat. If you let your wrist drop, it will cause the string to hit your forearm, which will not only be painful, but it will also throw off your shot.

Breathe Normally:

It’s important to breathe normally when you’re drawing the bow. If you hold your breath, it will make it harder to aim properly. So take a few deep breaths and let them out slowly as you’re drawing the bow.

Keep the String Centered on the Arrow:

As you’re drawing the bow, it’s important to keep the string centered on the arrow. If you let the string drift off to one side or the other, it will throw off your aim. So be sure to keep the string lined up with the center of the arrow as you’re drawing.

Take Stock at Full Draw:

Once you’ve reached full draw, take a moment to check your form. Make sure that your head is up straight, your wrist is flat, and the string is centered on the arrow. If everything looks good, you’re ready to take your shot.

Release the Arrow Smoothly:

When you’re ready to release the arrow, do it smoothly and evenly. If you jerk the arrow off of the Bow string, it will throw off your aim and make it harder to hit your target. So take your time and release the arrow smoothly for the best results.

Follow Through:

Finally, be sure to follow through with your shot after you release the arrow. This means keeping your hand in place until the arrow hits the target. This will help ensure that you don’t jerk the arrow off course.

In The End:

In conclusion, drawing a compound bow is not a difficult task. However, there are a few things that you need to keep in mind in order to ensure that the process is done correctly. First, make sure that all of the equipment is properly assembled. Second, be sure to follow the safety procedures. And finally, take your time and be patient when drawing the bow.

With a little practice, drawing a compound bow can be easy and fun! Just remember to keep your head up, stay relaxed, and follow through with your shot. You’ll be hitting your targets in no time.

BowPicks was founded by me, John Robert, in 2021 for beginners who are looking to learn about archery equipment. I'm a veteran of the US Army and love all things outdoorsy. My favorite thing to do is go hunting with my bow. John first started shooting a bow and arrow competitively on weekends, but soon found his passion shifting towards the academic side of things. I learned about all the different types of bows and arrows out there and wanted to share this knowledge with others. I began BowPicks as a blog that he wrote himself which eventually developed into what it is today: a website with articles, videos, reviews, comparisons, and more!
